Up Late With Rus & Pat • Episode 42

cannonUp Late With Rus & Pat returns to mourn the recent rash of celebrity deaths, and take a few moments to remember what made them great.

We then move on to discuss the documentary, Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films.  A fantastic, deep dive into a company that created scores of movies that have touched our lives… and maybe some other places as well.  We finish up with a great discussion on gratuitous nudity and aerobics in space.

Up Late with Rus & Pat • Episode 34

PlutoSmileScience! We go a little long in this episode, but that’s just because we love Pluto and the exploration of our Solar System so much. We discuss NASA’s New Horizons mission to the Pluto system and the whole “Pluto’s not a planet anymore but a dwarf-planet” thing. After that, we delve into a big fascination we both share, dinosaurs!

We Googled after the podcast, and the Jurassic, Triassic, etcetera, are referred to periods, not epochs. Epochs are segments of the periods, like Late Triassic, early Jurassic, etcetera. Rus kind of redeemed himself with this episode’s Pluto discussion, after the last episode’s cocky — and incorrect — assertion about The Last Starfighter beating Tron to using CGI; he should have quit while he was ahead. We hope our fellow nerds enjoy this episode, and feel comfortable to reach out and correct us if we got any of the science wrong!

Up Late with Rus & Pat – Episode 17

DraxWe return with another long episode. We promise, the next one will be short… or something. Episode 17 deals with the super-fun Guardians of the Galaxy movie from Marvel Studios (caution: spoilers), Rus’s Christmas movie watch-list (where, in his exhausted state, he neglects to mention Will Farrell’s amazing Elf), Rus’s huge vocabulary (according to Pat), prohibitively high comicbook prices, and much more geeky goodness. Go watch Guardians of the Galaxy if you haven’t already! Or watch it again!

Up Late with Rus & Pat – Episode 11

vizziniMaybe our most fun episode yet? We’ll let you decide, but we really enjoyed making this one! We start off talking about algebra, rocket science, and the amazing event this week of the European Space Agency landing a probe on a frickin’ comet! Then we get all paleontological and debate how the dinosaurs went extinct about 65 million years ago (possibly from a comet impact). After we recap our feelings on the latest episode of the fun new CW superhero show The Flash, we take on a listener suggestion and recast an existing movie, in this case The Expendables!  After you listen, check out our movie poster on our All-Things-Geek page and let us know what you think of our choices.
